Wired Cotton Chenille Roping

Made especially for us in Germany, this fluffy cotton chenille roping is a great trimming for so many craft projects. The addition of a wire center makes it easy to form into a variety of shapes, and it bends nicely to create a "fur" edging to accent dolls outfits, Santa Claus and angel ornaments.

This cotton chenille roping takes wonderfully to being dyed! Using any fabric dye, follow their instructions for coloring fabric. After dip-dying the trim, immediately rinse it in cold water, squeeze out the excess water, then dry it further by running the length of trim between paper towels. We like to dry the trim by laying it out in the sun, occasionally "fluffing" it by holding one end and pulling the length through clean paper toweling. Remember to alternate "fluffing" from both ends so that the fibers don't mat down in one direction.

Cotton Chenille Stems ~ Old-Time Pipe Cleaners

Our artists' favorite chenille stems! These 100% cotton fiber chenille pipe stems are one of the handiest of all crafting supplies to keep on hand. They have so very many uses in our Ridgewood atelier, from forming the inner "armature" of our famous cotton batting Christmas ornaments to being used as component pieces in a surprising number of Blümchen's exclusive holiday decorations. Manufactured with a stiff wire center, the pipe stems are flexible enough to be easily bent into various designs, yet are sturdy enough to hold a firm shape, especially if you twist or braid a few lengths together. Made in America, we offer two widths of these 12" long stems.

These old-time pipe cleaners are still manufactured in America using 100% cotton fibers, which makes them extra-absorbent and a pleasure to work with. Originally intended for cleaning smoking pipes, the soft cotton bristles make them very handy for cleaning out the tips of glue and paint bottles.

Almost impossible to find these days, we tracked down some of the few remaining manufacturers who still use 100% cotton fibers to create these old-style wired chenille craft products. The cotton chenille roping is made especially for us in Germany, and the cotton chenille pipe stems are still manufactured in America by a small, family-owned company. Blümchen's famous cotton batting ornaments are created using an armature of the 1/8" wide cotton chenille stems, and after much trial and error, we can tell you that nothing else we tried over the years even came close to matching their quality!
