A classic metallic trim that has been prized for centuries as a decorative accent used in embroidery and jewelry making, bouillon wire became popular in late Victorian times as a glittery embellishment on fanciful Christmas ornaments. Our crinkle wires were produced by companies in Germany and Austria in the old fashion so that they are indistinguishable from bouillon that dates to days gone by.

Bouillon refers to a tightly-coiled wire that is spirally wound into a decorative and flexible hollow tube. A traditional embroidery accent that has been used in Europe since the Middle Ages, it is made from a thin, flattened copper wire that is plated with a metallic finish, then spun into patterned coils.

These metallic trims will all oxidize over time. The gold-tone and copper bouillon wires will acquire a darker, antiqued patina, while the real silver plated crinkle wires we offer are "guaranteed to tarnish."

These rare, extra-fine bouillons were plated with real gold and sterling silver! Old stock that we purchased in West Germany, these choice wire trims are more than thirty years old.
